POSITION SUMMARY
The Community College of Aurora is looking for inclusive, equity-minded, and student-centered psychology instructors to teach a variety of classes through dynamic and active learning strategies in the face-to-face environment. CCA is committed to quality instruction, high academic standards, high student support, and a strong commitment to student engagement and success. The Behavioral Sciences Department accomplishes this through equitable and inclusive pedagogical strategies. Instructors in this position will make complex psychological concepts accessible to students just entering the field as well as students nearing graduation and transfer.
OVERVIEW OF CCA
The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote student success through inclusive, accessible, challenging, equity-minded, and engaging instruction, as well as demonstrate cultural competency in teaching.
- Provide high expectations and high support for students of varied preparedness levels.
- Uphold the vision, mission, and values of the college.
- Before the first day of classes, according to published deadlines, provide the department with a copy of the course syllabus.
- By the first day of classes, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the departmental syllabus template.
- Stay current with and implement all departmental and college expectations.
- Evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.
- Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students in the college learning management system-Desire2Learn (D2L).
- Attend departmental/divisional/instruction-wide meetings as called by the Department Chair, Dean, or Vice President of Academic Success.
- Participate in instructional professional development activities as required; adjunct instructors must complete a departmental orientation and multiple trainings during their first year.
- Participate in all departmental and college-wide assessment practices.
- Abide by all relevant CCA, CCCS, and SBCCOE policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in Psychology or a Master's Degree in a related content area and 18 graduate credit hours in Psychology.
- Demonstrated competency in use of technology for course delivery.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in Psychology
- College level teaching experience in Psychology
- Experience teaching in a community college setting
- Knowledge and understanding of equitable and culturally-responsive teaching practices
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Salary: The starting rate is $1,149.00 per credit hour taught. Compensation may include additional pay for added contact hours.
