Location

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Department Information

The Department of Psychological Science is a dynamic and rapidly growing department in the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department has more than 50 full-time and many part-time faculty supporting a major and minor in psychology, including a fully online undergraduate program. The Department is committed to providing a rigorous education that prepares approximately 2,500 majors (Bachelor of Science) and 700 minors for careers and graduate training. The Department strives to create a collaborative and supportive climate for our students, faculty, and staff.

With more than 400 full-time faculty and 8,500 degree-seeking students, the Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences prepares the next generation of leaders in a wide array of fields to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century and become contributing citizens in a global society. The home of three Schools and eight Departments, the College offers more than 80 graduate and undergraduate programs of study in both traditional and interdisciplinary fields. RCHSS provides students experiential learning opportunities to enable them to develop leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, as well as a strong sense of civic engagement.

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychological Science with a preferred start date of August 2025. This is a nine-month contracted position. The area of specialization is Community Psychology and all areas of focus within that specialization. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

Strong scholarship, along with a commitment to excellence in teaching and engagement, is expected of all faculty members in the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences at KSU. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Demonstrated record of impactful, applied research and teaching excellence.
  • Faculty are expected to teach courses in their area of specialization and courses that are part of the required core in the psychology major.
  • The standard teaching load is 9 credit hours (i.e., 3 courses) per semester, with the load being negotiable depending on research intensity.
  • Those who seek to be research-intensive within the Department of Psychological Science are expected to not only engage in programmatic research that results in publications in refereed journals but also to secure extramural funding.
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate education and mentorship.
  • Service to the Department, College, University, and/or profession is expected.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • A Doctorate degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Psychology or a related discipline earned by start date.
  • Evidence of promoting student success.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the university level.
  • Demonstrated record of research and scholarship within the discipline.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialization in Community Psychology.
  • High priority will be given to those who can teach courses related to their specialization (e.g., clinical and counseling, cross-cultural, developmental, educational, ethnic minority, health, psychopathology, social), in addition to research methods and statistics.
  • Knowledge and skills in executing community-integrated teaching, research, and/or service.
  • Effectiveness in teaching in different modalities (i.e., face-to-face, online, hybrid).
  • Effectiveness in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Effectiveness in publishing scholarship in reputable outlets.
  • Experience/potential in securing external funding.
