The Department of Psychology at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor. The start date for this position is August 1, 2025. We are interested in candidates who can contribute to both research and teaching in areas of Social and Multicultural Psychology, with additional opportunities to teach and mentor within other subfields of Applied Psychology. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in Social Psychology, Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Health Psychology, or Cross-Cultural/Multicultural Psychology, but we welcome applications from scholars whose work bridges these areas, such as those with an emphasis on broader societal, community, or health-related topics. The successful candidate will be provided an opportunity to teach in their area of specialization and may also be expected to teach courses such as introductory psychology, research methods, and statistics.

Successful candidates will be able to support our department's long-standing and well-regarded terminal Psychological Science MS degree program and MS in Industrial-Organizational psychology degree program. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to develop and sustain a research program. A passion for, and experience with, student mentorship, teaching, and applying psychology is also critical to success in this position. The standard teaching load for this position is a 3-3 with a one-course load reduction in each of the first two semesters to assist in establishing a program of research.
The Department of Psychology at UTC houses the largest major in the College of Arts & Sciences, with 22 full-time faculty members and more than 850 undergraduate and 56 graduate students across our degree programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Psychology in an area outlined above or closely related field. Individuals who are "all but dissertation" (ABD) will be considered; however, the degree must be awarded by December 31, 2025.
- Evidence of teaching experience and strong teaching ability in one or more of the areas outlined above.
- Evidence of an active research program that lends itself to collaboration with UTC colleagues and students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Potential for collaborations within the Department of Psychology and within the broader UTC and Chattanooga community in support of research and service. Faculty regularly collaborate on applied projects, often involving other local professionals, teaching and rehabilitation hospitals, other departments on campus, and a variety of private and non-profit organizations in the community.
- Demonstrated ability to provide supervision and mentorship of undergraduate and/or graduate students.
- Potential for engaging students in experiential learning.
- Demonstrated ability/potential for seeking and securing funding to support research.
